Overview
A fully engineered ADA-compliant signage system delivered for a U.S. residential project, produced in collaboration with a signage reseller serving the modern real estate sector. The project required the large-scale production of layered tactile signage integrating braille, raised lettering, and refined visual finishes to support both regulatory compliance and premium interior aesthetics.
The final system included 664 custom signs across eight variants, covering apartment room identification, directional wayfinding, and functional area signage. Designed for contractor-friendly installation and consistent tactile readability, the solution balanced accessibility compliance, layered material engineering, and scalable manufacturing under a fixed delivery schedule.
Context
The project was commissioned by a U.S.-based signage reseller managing a modern apartment development that required full ADA tactile and braille compliance. While experienced in general signage procurement, the client had limited prior exposure to ADA braille signage, making technical guidance and validation a critical part of the collaboration.
The signage package needed to function across multiple interior zones, including apartment units, corridors, accessibility areas, and shared facilities. Each sign had to meet tactile readability standards while maintaining a modern, layered aesthetic aligned with contemporary residential interiors.

The project required balancing regulatory precision, layered material complexity, and evolving design clarity across a large SKU set.
ADA Interpretation & Technical Validation
Early design files contained braille dimensions that were too small for reliable UV-based tactile production. The braille system required resizing and spacing adjustments to ensure proper tactile readability and ADA compliance.
Tactile Letter Engineering Accuracy
Initial sampling revealed excessive letter thickness due to unclear dimensional specifications. To eliminate ambiguity, both parties aligned on a strict file-confirmation workflow, ensuring all production followed finalized, client-approved drawings.
Multi-Variant System Complexity
The final package included 664 units across eight signage variants, with both black and white interior systems. Managing layered construction, tactile standards, and multiple size ranges required rigorous SKU coordination and repeated specification verification.
Data Variability During Procurement
Quantities, layouts, and interior zoning requirements evolved during early phases, requiring continuous alignment on braille color, graphic application scope, and tactile hierarchy across signage types.
Process
Phase 1 – Sampling & ADA Feasibility Alignment
The project began with dual color sampling (black and white variants) to validate tactile legibility, braille scale, and layered construction logic. This stage established the technical baseline for ADA-compliant production and aligned expectations between reseller and manufacturer.
Phase 2 – On-Site Sample Review & Specification Lock
Following physical sample evaluation, the client conducted in-person review sessions to finalize tactile height, braille readability, and visual layering. A structured confirmation protocol was introduced, ensuring that all subsequent production adhered strictly to approved documentation.
Phase 3 – Layered Material Engineering
To achieve a premium layered aesthetic while maintaining accessibility compliance, LC Sign engineered a multi-layer acrylic stack:
- 3 mm matte acrylic base (black or white variants)
- 0.8 mm raised acrylic lettering for tactile readability
- 0.8 mm transparent tactile braille layer
- UV-printed graphics for symbols and detailing
This structure provided both visual depth and consistent tactile feedback across signage formats.

Phase 4 – Scalable Production Execution
With final specifications confirmed, the full system entered accelerated production. The manufacturing scope covered:
- 400 tactile room numbers
- 264 directional and functional signs
- Eight distinct signage SKUs
- Size ranges from 4-inch identifiers to 19.5-inch wayfinding panels
Quality control focused on edge finishing, layer alignment, and braille consistency across all variants.

Phase 5 – Contractor-Ready Delivery
To support fast on-site deployment, every sign was delivered with pre-applied 3M high-bond adhesive backing. This enabled tool-free installation, reducing labor requirements and simplifying installation for general contractors and fit-out teams.
